Jewel White

Jewel White, Ph.D. (she/her) is a postdoctoral scholar in the department of Anesthesia in the Biobehavioral Pediatric Pain (BPP) lab lead by Dr. Laura Simons. Her research focuses on uncovering biomarkers of pain recovery versus persistence in adolescents with chronic musculoskeletal (MSK) pain. She is particularly interested in the neural correlates of childhood chronic pain and the neural predictors of pain outcomes. She completed her Ph.D. in Neuroscience from the University of Maryland School of Medicine, and her BA in Biology from the University of Virginia. As a graduate student, Jewel was active in several outreach and community activities, including volunteering for the Baltimore Underground Science Space (BUGSS). She also served as a member of the Initiative for Maximizing Student Development (IMSD) and Program in Neuroscience Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Anti-Racism in Science (IDEAS) committees, and as a research mentor for undergraduate and high school students. Outside of the lab, Jewel enjoys spending time with her little family, traveling, trying something new, communicating science for all, and is a huge foodie.
