Candidate Review Criteria
Candidates will be evaluated by a committee, which includes faculty members, members of the Propel leadership team, and current Propel scholars. We take an inclusive approach to screening for applicants who enrich the variety of backgrounds and perspectives in academia. However, choosing the cohort relies on a combination of the scientific merits of each applicant and their alignment with the values of the program. Propel is open to people from all backgrounds, and all applications will be evaluated in conformance with applicable law.
The following criteria may be considered as positive factors during the review process:
- Track record and potential for an independent research career.
- Commitment to/passion for a career as a faculty member in a U.S. college or university. Note that you may have interests in a range of institution types, which is aligned with Propel’s goal of supporting an applicant’s career of choice within academia.
- Commitment to teaching and mentoring.
- Track record and potential for leadership across any of research, teaching, mentoring, and/or outreach areas.
- Track record of community engagement.
- Mentor-mentee partnership: alignment of and potential to achieve stated goals of each, and ability of your mentor to provide excellent mentorship and support you through your postdoctoral training and into a faculty career.
